To design your label, we will need to know:
• Who your market is
• All about the container the label is to go on. The best way to get us the information is to mail us a sample of the container, or you can just tell us what you have in mind. Give us guidance-a stick-figure drawing or a sentence on the label theme. (e.g., 'natural' or 'gourmet' or 'healthy woman on bike').
• Your product's ingredients and what happens to the product after the label is applied. This is what you'll be telling us when you complete the "Label Art" form with our customer service staff. From this information, we will be able to judge the best design, material, adhesive and shape for your label.
• Next, send a sample of your product's container. We will return the container with a high-definition color laser proof of the label design we create for you.
How To Send Us Art
All artwork must be submitted with a color proof.
Hardware (Computers)
We use Macintosh computers (“MACs”), not IBM computers (“PCs”). A file created on one can be used by the other only if it is saved in a compatible file format. Any file supplied to us must be compatible with our MACs, otherwise, we can’t use it.
Software (Programs)
We prefer files in Adobe Illustrator and/or Adobe Photoshop (any version). Although we have most of the standard graphics software, all of our files are made and saved in Illustrator and Photoshop, and things go most smoothly if the files you submit are in the same software.

We have found these two programs to be the most reliable and best-suited programs for our printing process (flexography). If artwork is made in a different program, we have to spend time to convert it to a workable format, which usually results in unnecessary technical problems as well as additional art charges. The programs from which we can convert files include Freehand 8, Coreldraw 6, QuarkXpress 3.3, and Pagemaker 6.5. If your files are in a program other than the ones mentioned above, we can accept them only if they can be saved as MACINTOSH EPS FILES. If this is not possible, then the artwork will have to be recreated.

Custom Programs
Stocking and storing labels can be an area of concern for customers. It gets to be a large-budget item when you combine the costs of storage space and having obsolete or aged labels. A number of programs are available from Blue Ribbon to help the economics of your label usage:
• Consignment labels
• Labels on demand
• Contract pricing
One of these may be just what you need. We’d be glad to discuss them with you.
Consignment
Consignment is a new concept in the world of labels. With this system, we make your labels and send them to you to stock in your warehouse. When you take some out of stock to use, you notify us. Only then do we bill for the labels. If you are interested in finding out how this might work for you, please e-mail or call us at (800) 433-4974.
Labels on Demand
Zero inventory works well for companies with extensive product lines. For labels-on-demand

customers, we keep on hand the materials needed to produce your label, give you priority press availability and also stock some finished inventory.
These are some of the ways we can guarantee that you get super fast turn-around time from the moment you call. Typically, by the time you need the next batch of labels, we’re ready to deliver them.
Contract Pricing
When you use many different labels over a year and order them at different times and in different quantities, contract pricing may be just what you need. We will develop a contract price so you know your true costs of labeling. |

Worried about dealing with an unknown company you found on the Internet?
Make sure your labels are exactly what you want with a Blue Ribbon pre-production run: we'll run a hundred labels and send them to you for approval before we run the entire order.
This great service is available to our ongoing customers as well as our new customers who are working with us for the first time.
Inspection / Rewind
Finished labels go to our inspection/rewind area, where three simultaneous processes occur:
• Every label in the roll is inspected
• Labels are rewound in a format appropriate for how they are to be applied.
• Each order is given a 100% accurate count.
Inspection personnel review each label sent as we strive for perfection. Knowing how much rides on their thoroughness, they have become expert at vigilance. In the almost two decades of production, not a single recall of any Blue Ribbon label has been made.
Depending on your needs, finished labels pass through one to three inspection stations, using Arpeko and Web techniques inspection equipment. At each station, strobe lights “freeze” every label so that imperfections -- anything from a slight smudge to a broken letter -- can be picked out. These labels are flagged for later destruction. Each station is in an enclosed area and only one job at a time is handled; this is done for security and for cleanliness.
At one of our “machine section” inspection station, a TV camera check each and every label… assuring 100% perfection without the possibility of human error.
At the same time that labels are being inspected, they are being rewound and prepared for shipping. Rewind makes sure that your labels come to you in a format compatible with your applicating equipment. For each order, the job sheet notes all critical information relating to how the labels will eventually be applied. This data lets our personnel know the correct size of spool to use, how many labels to include on the roll to

yield the proper width and in which direction to wind the labels onto the spool core.
Pharmaceutical labels are handled separately in their own inspection/rewind area, where all quality control procedures are rigorously adhered to.
As labels are rewound, they are scanned one final time for any errors. At this time we can also consecutively numbered the label if needed. An exact count is taken to insure the exact order amount is met.
Stringing
Blue Ribbon is the biggest producer of cruise line baggage tags in the United States. We also produce product hang tags for placement around the neck of bottles.
In the Stringing Department, specialized stringing machines punch the printed tag stock and affix an eyelet, then insert a string and knot it. At rates of up to 5,000 tags per hour, the machines are mesmerizing to watch: tags go zipping through and shooting out.
We now have five high-speed stringing machines.
Warehousing
Our air-conditioned storage space is 6,000 square feet. Because we keep a large amount of stock on hand, we rarely have to delay work while waiting for delivery of raw stock. As soon as the typical order comes in, we’re ready to begin production.
With our own warehouse, we can provide just-in-time labels for our larger customers. Although just-in-time labels mean zero inventory for customers, it is partly accomplished by doing some label storage on our premises. Knowing the needs of our long-term customers, we are able to work with each client to estimate their upcoming label needs and help have them ready and waiting when a timely order comes in.
Our warehouse has its own just-in-time set-up with out any paper mills. Every month they deliver just what we need to keep on hand. The system makes sure that all the materials we use are fresh -- never more than 60 days old -- and that we have in stock exactly what we’ll need to make your label. |

What's inside a bottle is just stuff until you add the label. Then suddenly, wham! -- you're communicating with your market. Design, color and text all work together to catch the buyer's eye. No one does it better than Blue Ribbon.
Our Art Department boasts the latest in graphic design equipment and five truly talented artists. If you choose Blue Ribbon to help with your label design our typical charges range from $150 to $400. That's about 10 percent of what a commercial design firm might charge. The design will then become your property, to use as you see fit.
If you do not choose us to manufacture your labels, just return the design at no charge. The design will remain the property of Blue Ribbon.
